Class size: 16 students maximum

Prerequisite: Improvising Songs 101 or equivalent.

Tuition: $126

No one would expect you to be an expert song improvisor after one class anymore than you could improvise a Moliere play after one French lesson. This is an opportunity to exercise the muscles we introduced in IS101 and dig deeper into more advanced skills like harmony, counterpoint, song structure, and fitting songs into improv games and scenes.

Brian Lohmann and Joshua Raoul Brody have been improvising music together for four decades. They have collaborated on many musicals for BATS over the years and sprouted spontaneous songs in Pulp Playhouse and Johnny Lonely’s Unhappy Hour. Both composers, Brian and Joshua combine a craftsperson’s nuts and bolts approach with a playful “anyone can make up a song” philosophy.

BATS Improv Class Refund Policy

• If you cancel more than 96 hours (4 days) before a class begins, we will refund your tuition less a 15% processing fee.
• If you cancel within 96 hours (4 days) of your first class, or any time after your first class session, your tuition will be forfeit.

In the event that we cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, we’ll refund your tuition in full.
