Chef Chris and his Nairobi Trio, stalwarts of the Detroit blues scene, formed in the late 1990s with a mission to explore funky, old-school electric blues while putting their own quirky, sonically adventurous spin on the genre. Their performance is characterized by an unrelenting intensity that will send chills down your spine and have you dancing the night away to their infectious, greasy grooves. In 2002, the band achieved a major milestone by winning the prestigious International Blues Challenge (IBC) held annually on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. This victory launched them on a blues pilgrimage through the South and Midwest, where they played major festivals and blues clubs. They quickly followed up with their debut CD, Ruff Cuts, in anticipation of their southern tour, which included performances at the renowned King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas, and a spot at the WC Handy Blues Awards in Memphis. At the Handy Awards, they shared the stage with blues legends such as B.B. King, Dr. John, Ike Turner, and many more. A standout moment of the weekend was jamming with Hubert Sumlin, the legendary guitarist from Howlin' Wolf's band, at the Gibson Guitar Ballroom, and being introduced by Dr. John at the Orpheum Theater.

In 2003, the band recorded their second CD, You’re Going to Jail, and Your Car Is Too, at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak, MI. This album earned them a spot on Billboard Magazine’s showcase at the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville, TN.

The Nairobi Trio features Detroit music scene veterans Sir Tim Duvalier (Guitar), Brother Bill Lewis (Bass), and Vinnie Dombroski (Drums), alongside Manchester's larger-than-life frontman, Chef Chris (Vocals/Harmonica).
